Prepare to work safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)

This course will give you the mandatory work health and safety training required before undertaking construction work. The course will enable you to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and  emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

It is expected that site-specific induction training will be conducted prior to conducting construction work.

This course is also known as white card training, or white card course.

COURSE DURATION

This course is delivered over 6 hours and consists of theory and practical demonstration.

CERTIFICATE

On successful completion of this course, you will be issued a statement of attainment in:

  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the Construction Industry

 

Once competent participants will need to apply for a NT Construction White Card, this can be lodged at the Territory Business Centre or online. Applications are to include a statement of attainment or written declaration issued in the preceding 60 days. An application fee is payable at time of  lodgment. The fee is $25.00 for a new or replacement card.

  • Health and safety communication and reporting processes
  • Incident and Emergency response procedures
  • Safety signs and symbols
  • Use of PPE and safety equipment

ASSESSMENT METHODS

A successful outcome for this statement of attainment will be determined by a range of different methods including:

  • Written assessment
  • Oral questioning
  • Observation of simulated and practical activities etc.
