Changing Lives

Aboriginal Enterprises Australia NT’s building and maintenance programs through the NT Government Territory Families, Housing and Communities grant programs play a transformative role in the lives of Aboriginal community members by significantly enhancing living standards and aligning with the nine healthy living practices. These initiatives go beyond infrastructure development, fostering improvements in health, education, and overall well-being. ‌

Through targeted building projects and scopes, the program addresses key elements of the nine healthy living practices, such as safe living environments, access to clean water, and adequate housing. By ensuring that homes are upgraded to promote easy maintenance and meet essential health criteria, the programs contribute directly to improved health outcomes in these remote Aboriginal communities.

The positive impact extends to education, with enhanced living standards positively influencing school attendance. By creating more conducive living environments, including improved housing conditions and community infrastructure, Aboriginal Enterprises Australia NT contributes to a more liveable context that encourages students to attend school regularly.

In summary, the building and maintenance programs by Aboriginal Enterprises Australia NT serve as catalysts for holistic improvement in the lives of Aboriginal community members. They not only elevate living standards in alignment with healthy practices but also foster an environment conducive to increased school attendance, thereby promoting positive outcomes for the entire community.

Camel Camp Community – Utopia Homelands

Case Study

AEA NT upgraded 13 dwellings in this homeland as apart of our NT Government Territory Families, Housing and Communities town camps upgrade program. This included the extensive use of our own interpreter as English is a second language in this community. Providing an interpreter ensured the community members fully understood the scope of the program including transitional accommodation, order of houses to be upgraded, safety requirements and input into paint colours and usability. As a result of this upgrade, the community as a whole developed an enhanced sense of pride and satisfaction with the finished product which led to a cleaner and safer community. Our team noticed more children in the community post completion and observed improvements against the nine healthy living practices and school attendance.
